Terms of Use last updated: June 29, 2026
ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS OF USE
These Terms of Use (the “Terms”) explain the rules that apply when you visit or use the Georgia Innocence Project website, including its content, resources, forms, donation pages, event information, and other features (collectively, the “Site”). The Site is operated by Georgia Innocence Project (“GIP,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). Please read these Terms before using the Site. By accessing, browsing, submitting information through, or otherwise using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site. We may update these Terms from time to time by posting revised terms on the Site and updating the “last updated” date above.
Your use of the Site is also subject to GIP’s Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, share, and protect personal information submitted through or collected by the Site. If these Terms and the Privacy Policy address the same privacy issue differently, the Privacy Policy controls for that issue.
USE OF SITE AND CONTENT
GIP provides the Site to share information about our mission, programs, cases, educational resources, events, volunteer opportunities, donation opportunities, and other activities. We may update, change, remove, or improve the Site or any Content at any time. We do our best to keep the Site available and current, but we cannot guarantee that all or any part of the Site will always be available, complete, or up to date.
The Site may allow you to request assistance, contact GIP, subscribe to updates, register for events, volunteer, apply for internships, make donations, or otherwise engage with our work. Please make sure any information you submit is accurate, complete, and provided by you or with proper authorization. Submitting information through the Site does not guarantee that GIP will respond, accept a matter, provide representation, enroll you in a program, or reach any particular outcome.
Please do not use the Site for emergencies or urgent legal deadlines. If you are facing an imminent court deadline, emergency, or other time-sensitive matter, you should seek appropriate help through another available channel. GIP does not guarantee that submissions through the Site will be reviewed within any particular timeframe.
The Site is intended for use by individuals who are at least 13 years old. If you are under 13, you may not submit personal information through the Site. If you are under 18, you should use the Site only with the involvement of a parent, guardian, or other responsible adult, except where applicable law permits otherwise.
The Site includes information, text, graphics, photographs, images, videos, data, reports, news, stories, and other materials (collectively, “Content”). Unless otherwise stated, the Content is owned by GIP or used with permission. You may view, print, store, and use the Content for your personal, noncommercial use or to support GIP’s nonprofit mission. You may not modify, reproduce, redistribute, sell, publish, exploit, or create derivative works from the Content without GIP’s prior written permission, except as permitted by law.
Please use the Site only for lawful purposes and in a way that does not interfere with the Site’s operation, security, or availability. You may not use the Site to submit false, misleading, harmful, unlawful, infringing, abusive, or threatening material; introduce viruses, malware, or other harmful code; try to access systems, accounts, data, or networks without authorization; or engage in activity that could harm GIP, our clients, applicants, staff, volunteers, partners, donors, or the public.
If you violate these Terms, we may end or restrict your right to use the Site. No ownership rights in the Site or Content are transferred to you, and all rights not expressly granted are reserved by GIP.
DONATIONS AND CHARITABLE SOLICITATIONS
The Site may give you the option to donate, buy event tickets, sponsor activities, or otherwise support GIP’s nonprofit mission. Donations and other payments may be processed by third- party payment processors or fundraising platforms. Those services have their own terms, privacy policies, and security practices. GIP does not store full payment card information unless GIP or the applicable payment processor expressly says otherwise or the information is required
for a specific transaction.
Charitable fundraising rules vary by state. GIP is responsible for complying with the charitable solicitation, registration, reporting, receipting, and disclosure requirements that apply to its fundraising activities. In Georgia, the Georgia Charitable Solicitations Act, administered by the Georgia Secretary of State, generally governs charitable fundraising registration, reporting, and enforcement. A government registration, filing, or acceptance of materials does not mean that the government endorses, approves, recommends, or sponsors GIP.
Because people may donate from different states, some state laws may require GIP to register, claim an exemption, renew filings, file reports, or include specific disclosures in donation pages, written solicitations, donor acknowledgments, or other fundraising materials. GIP intends to comply with applicable state charitable solicitation requirements where they apply. Permission to solicit, registration, notice, exemption, or filing in any state should not be understood as an endorsement, approval, recommendation, or sponsorship of GIP by that state or any state official.
Unless GIP states otherwise in writing, donations are voluntary and non-refundable. GIP may decline, return, or restrict the use of a donation when required by law or when GIP determines that accepting the donation would be inconsistent with its mission, policies, legal obligations, or ethical commitments. Any statement about tax deductibility depends on applicable law and your individual circumstances. Please consult your own tax advisor about the tax treatment of any contribution.
THIRD-PARTY WEBSITES
The Site may link to third-party websites, platforms, services, or tools, including donation processors, event registration platforms, social media platforms, media sites, partner organizations, and other resources (“Third-Party Sites”). We provide these links for convenience or informational purposes. GIP does not control those Third-Party Sites and is not responsible for their content, accuracy, security, availability, privacy practices, or terms. Please review the applicable terms and privacy policies before using a Third-Party Site or providing personal information.
When you use a Third-Party Site, that site’s own terms and privacy policy apply. Questions or concerns about a Third-Party Site should be directed to that site’s administrator or operator.
SOCIAL MEDIA SITES
The Site may link to GIP’s official social media accounts or display Content from social media platforms. GIP Content posted on social media is subject to these Terms, but your use of a social media platform is governed by that platform’s own terms, policies, and practices. GIP is not responsible for third-party comments, posts, messages, or other content on social media platforms.
USER SUBMISSIONS AND CONTENT
If you submit information, materials, comments, stories, photographs, testimonials, applications, inquiries, or other content through the Site (“User Submissions”), you represent that you have the right to submit them and that they do not violate anyone else’s rights or any applicable law. Submissions intended for confidential case review, legal intake, or other nonpublic communications will be handled in accordance with GIP’s Privacy Policy and applicable law. Submissions that you intentionally provide for public posting or publication may be treated as non-confidential and non proprietary.
For submissions you intentionally provide for public posting, publication, or promotional use, you give GIP permission to use, reproduce, display, publish, distribute, edit, and create derivative works from those submissions for GIP’s nonprofit, educational, advocacy, fundraising, communications, and mission-related purposes, subject to any written limitations agreed by GIP. You remain responsible for the legality, reliability, accuracy, and appropriateness of your submissions.
MONITORING, ENFORCEMENT, AND TERMINATION OF CONTENT
GIP may review, refuse, move, edit, remove, or delete any User Submission or Content on the Site at our discretion. We may take action if we believe a User Submission or use of the Site violates these Terms, infringes another person’s rights, threatens the safety or rights of any person, compromises confidentiality, or may create liability for GIP.
GIP may restrict, suspend, or terminate your access to the Site, including if we believe you have violated these Terms. We may also cooperate with law enforcement authorities, court orders, subpoenas, or other legal process when required or permitted by law.
GIP does not guarantee that it reviews all material before it appears on the Site or that it can remove objectionable material immediately after it is posted. GIP is not responsible for user or third-party content except as required by applicable law.

DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY
THE CONTENT ON THE SITE IS PROVIDED AS A SERVICE TO THE PUBLIC FOR INFORMATIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. IT IS NOT LEGAL, FINANCIAL, MEDICAL, MENTAL HEALTH, OR OTHER PROFESSIONAL ADVICE. USING THE SITE OR SUBMITTING INFORMATION THROUGH THE SITE DOES NOT CREATE AN ATTORNEY- CLIENT, FIDUCIARY, COUNSELING, OR OTHER PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GIP. Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms will not constitute a waiver of that provision or any other provision. The disclaimers, limitations of liability, indemnification obligations, ownership provisions, and any other provisions that by their nature should survive will survive termination or expiration of these Terms.
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Georgia, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles.
